IT for BAS Professionals Version 2.0




This is an Early Access Course. You will gain access to version 1.0 of the course during the early access period.

Version 2.0 is slated to be complete August 31st 2021. As part of the Early Access Program you will be able to provide direct feedback to the course content and you will be able to attend a special IT Course Students only weekly live session during the course creation phase.


Information Technology for BAS Professionals will make the student conversational in IT so that they confidently work with IT departments during the sales and/or operational phases of a BAS project. The student will spend several modules learning the fundamental IT skills needed to be “conversational” and then can dive deeper with more advanced topics and hands-on exercises in the remaining modules. Scroll down to the Description section for details.

This course is:

  • Fully online, self-paced course
  • Overall course length is 34 hours and 21 minutes
  • Bi-weekly live office hours to discuss the course with the instructor
  • Access to all course material for (1) one full year



This course is targeted towards new salespersons, technicians, designers, operators, consulting engineers, and project managers.


Pre-requisite knowledge




  • Identify key players within IT organizations and how to handle common IT objections
  • Demonstrate awareness of IT concepts to include, networking, databases, servers, remote access, and cybersecurity
  • Develop mastery of IT concepts through 28 optional hands-on labs


    Key Topics

    This course will provide the student with the fundamental knowledge required to successfully deal with IT technology during the BAS sales and operations processes. The key topics this course focuses on are:

    • Learn how IT departments are organized, who you should work within IT to solve BAS problems, and how to get sponsorship from IT to solve your issues.
    • Learn the different networking components, what IP addresses are and how they work, how networks function, and much, much more.
    • Learn the different networking components, what IP addresses are and how they work, how networks function, and much, much more.
    • Learn what a database is, how it is used, how data models work, how to ensure that your data types match up, and how to work with IT to get a database server.
    • Learn how remote access works, the four kinds of remote access, how to setup remote access, and how to handle IT objections around remote access.
    • Learn what cybersecurity is, how a hack happens, the truth about the Target and IoT DDoS attacks, how to secure your BAS, and how to convince IT your BAS is secure.
    • Learn what the cloud is, how a BAS can function in the cloud and how to address IT concerns about the cloud.
    • Learn what the Internet of Things (IoT) is, how IoT works, and how to keep up to date on all things IoT.
    • Learn what an API is, how an API works, what an SDK and service are, and how all of this comes together in an integrated BAS.
    • Learn how to use computer management, services, and logs to troubleshoot and maintain your BAS.
    • Learn what protocols and ports are, the major protocols and ports you need to know, and how to keep your BAS secure while exposing the ports and protocols you need.
    • Learn the fundamentals of NAT, VLSM, QoS, and Port Security. This information will help you support BAS installations at the enterprise level.
    • Learn how to identify the signs of network failures using my step-by-step process to resolve your network issues.


      Successful completion will require:

      Completion of all video lessons and successfully passing the course final exam with a score of 70% or greater.


      Upon successful completion you will get:

      Receive a certificate of completion and your name will be added to the certification database.
