In BAS Hardware Sizing and Selection Bootcamp - DES200 (formerly Controls Engineering Bootcamp), you will learn how to perform takeoffs and system hardware engineering for building automation systems. This course builds upon our BAS Advanced Design - DES100 course by providing in-depth instruction on the hardware engineering of control solutions. Scroll down to the description section to learn more.

You will begin the course with an intensive study into input and output types, network topologies, contract documents (MEP and Spec sets), and then you will move into the hands-on portion where you will engineer a complete hardware design based on real-world project documents.

    Course Details:

    • Fully online, self-paced course
    • Overall course length is 6 hours and 54 minutes
    • Live Office Hours 3 times/week to discuss course material
    • Access to all course material for (1) one full year

    Objectives

      • Demonstrate how to engineer control systems for VAV, Fan Coil, RTU, AHU, and Hydronic Systems
      • Utilize our controls engineering methodology to manage and execute the engineering process
      • Display knowledge of the engineering process and steps through multi-step exercises 

      Key Topics

      You will learn how to engineer control systems for a variety of HVAC applications through the use of exercises, video lessons, flowcharts, and checklists.

      In this course you will learn:

      • how to select the correct input and output types for your project
      • how to engineer control systems while considering scope, cost, and site conditions
      • how to engineer distributed control systems using I/O modules
      • how to properly select valves, dampers, and actuators based on project needs
      • how to correctly engineer installation details and panel layouts
      • how to choose the appropriate architecture based on the customer's business need
      • how to engineer controls designs utilizing embedded or factory packaged control solutions

      Audience

      This course is designed for BAS technicians, operators, designers, programmers, and service personnel who want to learn how to correctly engineer building automation systems.

      Pre-requisite knowledge

      Awareness of the parts and pieces of BAS. Basic knowledge of HVAC control sequence concepts. 1 year of field experience or equivalent.

      Additional Materials Required: Microsoft Visio and Excel

      Successful completion will require:

      Viewing all lesson videos in their entirety;

      Completing and passing Knowledge Checks with a score of 70% or better;

      Engaging in Discussion Forums;

      Completing and passing the Final Exam with a score of 70% or better;

      Completing the Student Course Exit Evaluation.


      Upon successful completion you will:

      Receive a Certificate of Completion and your name will be added to the certification database.
